Funeral services for Gerald Victor Buchanan Sr., 81, of Frankford, Mo. were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Mo. with the Rev. Richard Epperson officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana. Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home. Mr. Buchanan died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at his home near Frankford.
He was born Nov. 11, 1921 in Hamburg, to Harry Elbie Buchanan and Freda Foster Buchanan.
He married Edith Frances Boots May 20, 1942 at Bowling Green, Mo., and she survives. Others survivors include two sons, Gerald Victor Buchanan Jr. of Gazette, Mo. and Michael Ray Buchanan of Frankford; one sister, Marlin Martin (husband Paul) of Pleasant Hill; one aunt, Blanche Little of South Roxana; one uncle, Walter Carrol of Hamburg; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John Buchanan who died May 9, 2002 and a son who died in infancy; one grandson, Richard Buchanan who died in 1998; and two brothers, Harold and John Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan had been employed in the construction business for a number of years, working at Hercules Chemical Company in Louisiana and numerous other jobs. He was later employed by the Pike County Road District as a roadgrader operator for 17 years before retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Salt River Christian Church near New London, Mo. He enjoyed visiting with friends, telling stories, wood¬working, country music and most of all, his family. He was a loving and devoted husband and grandfather.
