Obituary - Dorman Ford

Dorman R. Ford, age 89, of White Hall, died Wednesday morning, March 30, 2005 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

He was born February 10, 1916, in North Calhoun County near the Pike-Calhoun line in Howell Hollow near the Mississippi River Bluff, the son of Rev. Harley and Verna Guthrie Ford.

He married Joyce McPherson on June 15, 1940. He later married Evelyn Bane Murray on Nov. 9, 1968 and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Margaret Ford (husband Douglas Hiester) of Decatur; one son Dan (wife Nancy) Ford of Monongahela, Pennsylvania; one stepdaughter, Cynda Arce; granddaughter, Talissa Ford; one step-granddaughter, Stephanie (husband, Jay) Meagher; three step grandsons, Charles Kirkland, Andrew Kirkland, and Allen Arce; one step great granddaughter, Anysa Kirkland and a nephew, Aaron (wife Rhonda) Ford.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Burwell Ford (surviving wife Macie of St. Louis, Missouri).

Mr. Ford attended many different grade schools as his father pastored small country churches. He graduated from White Hall High School, which he attended all four years. He attended Illinois College and MacMurray and received his A.B. Degree at both colleges. He received his Masters Degree in Education at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He taught at Oakland Rural School and Patterson School, both in Greene County; and taught at Alsey School in Scott County for seven years. He was principal and a teacher in Warrensburg Grade School in Macon County for three years and was principal and Superintendent at Williamsfield Community Unit School District 210 in Knox County for 10 years. He was Regional Supervisor for Title I Public Law 8910, for 12 years. He held a State Life General Supervisory Certificate for teaching all grades in Illinois. He retired in 1978.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was active in Antique Car Clubs; President of the Central Illinois Vintage Car Club; served on the Board of Directors of the Model T Ford Club of America and wrote articles for National Magazines and the Model T Ford Times. He received the Rosenthal Award in the Model T Ford Club of America for helping others in the hobby.

He was a member of the White Hall First Baptist Church in White Hall.

 Funeral services will be held at Noon Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m . Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
