Obituary - Joseph Kiel

Mass of resurrection for Joseph Henry Kiel, 808 West Exchange St., this city, was celebrated at ten o'clock Monday morning at St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville by father Terry Shea. Burial followed in St. Francis cemetery. The rosary was recited at four o'clock Sun. afternoon at the Jacoby funeral home where visitation was held. The family designated the St. Francis Xavier church building fund as a memorial.

Mr. Kiel, a retired farmer whose health had been impaired for quite sometime, was fatally stricken around noon Thursday while in the yard at his home.

A native of Calhoun county, Mr. Kiel, a son of the late Herman and Angeline Imming Kiel, was born 5 December 1896.

He was a veteran of World War I.

His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Marie M. Kiel; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Geraldine) Ferenbach of Godfrey and Mrs. William (Bernadine) Chappell of Jerseyville; two grandsons, Vernon and Roger Chappell of Jerseyville; two brothers, William Kiel of Brussels and Garrett Kiel of Golden Eagle; and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bimslanger of St. Louis and Mrs. Mamie Bopp of Brussels.

Mr. Kiel was a member of the Jerseyville Council, Knight of Columbus, World War One Barracks, Senior Citizens Club, the Jersey County Farm Bureau, and Worthey Post, American Legion.
