Joseph Koenig, 76, a retired farmer, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, 22 March, at nine thirty o'clock at his home on Cleveland Street. He had been in failing health for some time and died while in his workshop at his home.
The decedent was a son of the late Sebastian and Mary Wahl Koenig and was born at Dale, Indiana, on 24 August 1875.
At the time of death he had attained the age of seventy-six years, six months and twenty-eight days.
Mr. Koenig had been a resident of Jerseyville for the past eleven years.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph Koenig, Jr., and George Koenig of Jerseyville and Charles Koenig of Dow; four daughters, Mrs. Charles Hughes, Mrs. Thomas Kelly and Mrs. Thomas Hughes of Jerseyville and Mrs. Mary Roth of Hardin. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral rites were held Tuesday morning, 25 March at 9:30 o'clock at the church of the Holy Ghost. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father P. O. Heinen and interment was in St. Michael's cemetery in Calhoun County.
