NORTH CALHOUN RESIDENT DIES
G. W. Clendenny a highly respected citizen of North Calhoun died at the
home of his son Orland Clendenny after an illness of only seven days.
His death was caused from cerebral hemorrhage, and he had reached the age of
66 years. He was born near Baytown and here he lived most of his life and
here he lived with his wife until her death in 1931.
Mr. Clendenny will be missed because of his kindly and sympathetic manner, and honesty with all.
Funeral services were held at the Poore cemetery last Saturday, Oct, 23, and were in charge of Rev. Ready of Kane, Illinois. John B. Sutter of Kampsville had charge of the final arrangements.
George Washington Clendenny, the son of Andrew Branch and Minerva Clendenny Nykir born Dec. 4,1872 in the vicinity of Fox Creek. Here he spent his entire life until he was united in marriage to Ella Martin in the year of 1894 who departed this life March 11, 1931. To this union were born six children, namely: Otho, Orland and Freemon of Belleview, Andy of St. Charles, Mo., Mrs. Goldie Tharp and Mrs. Sylvia Smith of Belleview. One daughter Bertha preceded him in death several years ago.
Uncle George as he was familiarly called, was a kind father, a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. When still a young man he answered the call, and was baptized into the Church of Christ by Bro. Burns.
At the time of his death he was making his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Orland Clendenny, where he received every care could do but the Heavenly; Father knew best. He leaves to mourn his departure, besides his children, twenty-two grandchildren, one-half brother Oscar Clendenny of Belleview, a host of other relatives and friends.
