John R.W. Poore, 83, of Belleview, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at the Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield.
A U.S. Korean Army veteran, he retired in 1990 as an Iron Worker with Local 46 in Springfield. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill, Kampsville American Legion, and a life member of the NRA. He toured the Midwest in his hot air balloon and was known as "Jonny Swaypole" in the 1960s.
Born Oct. 28, 1927, in Alton, he was the son of the late James Dewey and Rita M. (Murphy) Poore. He married Letha L. Gresham July 8, 1950 in Hamburg and she survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Patricia Ann Lammy and Genevieve (Jerry) Tinkey, all of Godfrey.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Ivan and Robert Weston Poore.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Hanks-Gress Funeral Home in Hardin.
The funeral will be held Wednesday (today) Nov. 10, 2010, at Hanks-Gress
Funeral Home in Hardin with Jim Chambers officiating. Burial will be in
Hamburg City Cemetery with full military rites.
