ZIPPRICH. Charles J. Zipprich, 96, of Grafton died Thursday am October 29, 1981, at the Calhoun Comprehensive Home following 2 months of failing health.
Born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Frank & Melissa (Comdon) Zipprich, he was employed at American Cynamid Company, and also for 33 years operated the West End Grocery in Grafton, retiring in 1973. He had worked for a number of years as assistant cashier of the Bank of Calhoun County before moving to Grafton.
On November 5, 1924, he married Zitta (Freeman) Zipprich in Grafton and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Mary Brecker of Grafton; 1 Son Laverne of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 5 grandchildren; 1 sister, Margaret Dirksmeyer of Carlinville; and 1 brother, Oswin of Kampsville.
One son, Rev. Charles Zipprich, preceded him in death several years ago.
Visitation was held Sunday at Staten Funeral Home in Alton, where a rosary was recited at 8 pm. At 8:15 pm a chalice presentation was made by Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Jerseyville. A funeral mass was concelebrated at 11 am Monday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic church and burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.
