Calhoun County Herald
Jan. 25, 1894

Attention
There will be a called meeting of Calhoun Post on Saturday, Jan., 27, 1894. All comrades requested to attend. BY ORDER COMMANDER.

In this issue will be found the announcement of E. Wilkinson for Clerk of Road District No. Three. Mr. Wilkinson has served in this capacity and has made an efficient officer. To re-elect him would be a just recognition of his services which we have no doubt will be done.

That Calhoun county is in need of a new jail, can no longer be questioned. There is now another prisoner in the Jersey county jail, conveyed from this county, at the public expense. It is needless to advocate the building of a jail, or present any reasons why such a building should be erected. We have no doubt, but the question will be submitted this fall for the consideration of the voters.

Jos. Gress, died at his residence near St. Michael’s church Saturday evening. Mr Gress was born in Germany in the year 1815 and came to America while a young man. His death removes one of the oldest settlers in Crader precinct. His remains were interred in the St. Michael’s cemetery, Father Johannes conducting last sad rites. The HERALD extends sympathy to the bereaved.

Reubin Harrell, who was confined in the jail here last week, was taken to the Jersey county jail Friday, Geo. Wilkinson and Lee Fowler escorting him to his new quarters. Mr Harrell will no doubt be brought to realize the error of his way before he is through with this matter. He may be lead to appreciate the fact that rough and toughism, and publicity to his adulterous actions, will not always be tolerated in a civil community.

The persistent cough which usually follows an attack of the grip can be permanently cured by taking Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. W. A. McGuire of McKay, Ohio says: “LaGrippe left me with a severe cough. After using several different medicines without relief, I tried Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy, which effected a permanent cure. I have also it to be without an equal for children when troubled with colds or croup. For sale, by L. M. Davis, Hardin and Rose & Fen, Kampsville.
