Obituary - Daniel Nail

NAIL. Jersey County Democrat 23 July 1891

Died at his home near Litchfield, Illinois July 15, 1891, Daniel Nail, 88 years. Remains brought here for burial Saturday July 18 and laid to rest beside his wife in Oak Grove cemetery.

Following persons from Litchfield, Mr. and Mrs. Berry Nail, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Nail, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cromwell, Mrs. E. S. Spencer, Jos. Hunt, John Bitter, Wm. Bitter, A. Kranich, Guy A. Snell and James Thralls.

Born in Rowan County, NC January 15, 1803 and in 1824 with his family came to Shelby County, IN.

In 1826 married Cynthia Watts who died July 22, 1878.

In 1830 he moved to Illinois and settled in Greene County near Bluffdale, where he lived until 1837. From there to Calhoun County For 5 years, then to Jerseyville until 1880, then moved to Litchfield.

Of family of 11 children, four of whom survive him, he was the oldest. Two brothers and one sister live in Shelby County, Indiana, and one brother in Montgomery County, Illinois.

He had only one child, at the time of his death, Henry T. Nail, at whose home he died.

Funeral services from Oak Grove cemetery. Rev. J. Leeper. Pallbearers: D. G. Wyckoff, Benj. Wedding, J. G. Marston, J. D. Darby, J. S. Daniels and Wallace Leigh.
