Lula J. Rogers, 95, a former resident of Jersey County, died Saturday at St. Anthony hospital in Alton. She had been in failing health for some time and had been hospitalized since April 28.
Services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at Gent's chapel in Alton. Rev. A. R. Fields of Bible Baptist church in Cottage Hills officiated and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery.
She was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Hobbs and was born in Calhoun County on October 28, 1871. She came to Jersey County while a girl in her teens and her marriage to Mr. Rogers took place in Jerseyville in 1890.
Mrs. Rogers, who had resided in Alton for the past 35 years, made her home with her son, George Rogers, at 3337 Belle St.
Surviving are 3 sons, George and William of Alton, and Clifford of Orlando, Fla.; 4 daughters, Mrs. Alta Campbell of Alton, Mrs. Imo Nordenbrodck of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Helen and Mrs. Dorothy Wahle of Jerseyville, 10 grandchildren and 20 g-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by 2 infant children, 3 sisters, and 1 brother.
